Court remands Four students in prison for allegedly gang-raping and defiling their 16-year-old mentally unstable schoolmate on Tuesday in oyo state.
They are to be remanded at Abolongo Correctional Centre, Oyo, if the Juvenile Correctional facility at Ijokodo, Ibadan refused to accept them.
Punch news reports that the police charged the minors with conspiracy and unlawful sexual intercourse.
The Chief Magistrate, Sumbo Adetuyibi, who refused to take their plea due to lack of jurisdiction, adjourned the case till May 11, for mentioning.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Folake Ewe, had earlier told the court that the students allegedly conspired to commit the offence.
Ewe said the minors, between January and March 15, 2023, defiled a 16-year-old female student who was mentally challenged.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 516 of the Criminal Code and Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law 2006.
