AC Milan have announced the termination of Paolo Maldini’s contract as the technical director and former captain of the club, marking the end of his five-year tenure in the role.
Under Maldini’s guidance, AC Milan achieved great success, culminating in their Serie A triumph in 2022, which marked their first league title in 11 years.
The club expressed gratitude to Maldini for his invaluable contribution to their return to the Champions League and their Scudetto victory.
During his time as the technical director, Maldini played a pivotal role in bolstering AC Milan’s squad by acquiring talented players such as Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez, Fikayo Tomori, and Olivier Giroud.
In recent times, the club secured a fourth-place finish in Serie A and progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League, where they unfortunately suffered a defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals, Inter Milan.
Going forward, the day-to-day responsibilities previously overseen by Maldini will be carried out by a dedicated team working closely in collaboration with the first-team manager, as specified in the official statement.
Paolo Maldini enjoyed an illustrious playing career exclusively at AC Milan, amassing a staggering 901 appearances and securing 26 trophies. Notably, he clinched seven Serie A titles and five European Cup/Champions League triumphs.
His family has deep ties with the club as well, with his father, Cesare Maldini, being a revered figure who featured in 467 matches for AC Milan before managing the team for a two-year period.
Furthermore, Maldini’s son, Daniel Maldini, is currently part of the AC Milan squad, although he spent the previous season on loan at Spezia.
