Nigeria’s U-17 national football team, the Golden Eaglets, suffered a 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals of the 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations held in Algeria. As a result, they have failed to qualify for this year’s FIFA U-17 World Cup.
As a result, Burkina Faso, alongside Senegal, Mali, and Morocco, have secured their spots as Africa’s representatives at the U-17 World Cup.
Despite the Eaglets having the first major opportunity of the game in the eighth minute, with Abubakar Abdullahi’s impressive shot hitting the crossbar, Burkina Faso went ahead in the 44th minute with Aboubakar Camara’s goal following a poor clearance by Tochukwu Ogboji.
The Eaglets were unable to break through Burkina Faso’s strong defense, and in the 56th minute, Camara converted a penalty to double Burkina Faso’s lead.
Abubakar scored a consolation goal for the Eaglets in the 68th minute, but the Burkinabes held on to secure their qualification.
