According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of appointing Ange Postecoglou as their new permanent manager, following his impressive achievements at Celtic where he secured a domestic treble.
The report indicates that an official announcement confirming the appointment is expected within the next few days.
Postecoglou, 57, will depart Celtic after two successful seasons, during which he led the team to win the Scottish Premiership title in his debut season and successfully defended it in the 2022-23 campaign.
Additionally, Celtic also clinched the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup, completing a remarkable treble under his leadership.
The decision to bring in Postecoglou came after Tottenham encountered difficulties in securing other potential candidates.
Initially, the club had considered Arne Slot from Feyenoord, Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen, and former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann for the managerial position.
There were also rumors linking Mauricio Pochettino to a possible return to Tottenham; however, Pochettino eventually chose to join Chelsea.
If Postecoglou’s appointment is finalized this week, he will face the daunting challenge of revitalizing the club’s fortunes following a disastrous season.
Antonio Conte departed Tottenham in March by mutual agreement, and his assistant Christian Stellini took over as caretaker boss for the remainder of the season. However, Stellini was dismissed a month later after a demoralizing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle.
Tottenham’s disappointing campaign culminated in an eighth-place finish in the Premier League, and now there are reports suggesting that their star forward, Harry Kane, may depart the club, with Manchester United being a potential destination.
