Barcelona has announced that they have secured 1.45 billion euros in funding to kick-start the redevelopment plan, and they will commence the renovation of the Camp Nou stadium from June 1st 2023.
The club stated that the funds were obtained from 20 investors who will receive repayment over a period ranging from five to 24 years.
Barcelona intends to start reimbursing the loans when the renovation project is completed. Apart from the football stadium, the ‘Espai Barca’ plan will cover the expenses of other club facilities.
The plan includes allocating 420 million euros for the Palau Blaugrana, which is home to the club’s basketball and handball teams, and 20 million euros for the Johan Cruyff stadium, where the reserve and women’s football teams play.
According to the club’s statement, they anticipate that the Camp Nou renovation work will be finished by 2026.
During the 2024-25 season, the men’s first team will play at the Olympic stadium on Montjuic before returning to a not-yet-fully-capacitated Camp Nou.
Barcelona is following in the footsteps of their main Spanish rivals, Real Madrid, who commenced the latest renovation of their Bernabeu Stadium in 2019.
