Nigeria’s President, Mohammadu Buhari has urged the Nation U-20 players to go for the ongoing AFCON Championship in Egypt.
The team will face The Gambia in the semifinals on Monday, with a ticket to the FIFA U20 World Cup finals already secured. The Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, who arrived in Cairo on Sunday with former Super Eagles captain and aide to the President, Daniel Amokachi, conveyed the President’s message to the team, encouraging them to aim for the top prize.
According to Dare, President Buhari and Nigeria as a whole are proud of the team’s accomplishments so far, and that is why he was sent to deliver the message of support. The goal is to win a World Cup ticket, which the team has already accomplished. Now, they are being urged to take it a step further and aim to become African champions once again, just like they did at the WAFU B competition.
“The President of Nigeria asked me to convey his admiration for your accomplishments thus far. The entire nation is proud of what you have achieved, and we commend you for securing a World Cup qualification. However, the ultimate goal is within reach, and we urge you to pursue it with determination. Just as you triumphed in the WAFU B tournament, we believe you can emerge as African champion once again. So take it one step at a time, keep the trophy in sight, and strive for victory.” Dare Said
The trophy is within their reach, so they should approach each step with determination and focus on achieving their ultimate goal.
