Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table after defeating Fulham by 2-1, with Erling Haaland scoring his 50th goal of the season across all competitions.
Haaland scored a penalty in the third minute of the match, after Tim Ream fouled Julian Alvarez, becoming the first player in the top-flight to reach 50 goals in a single campaign since Tom ‘Pongo’ Waring did so for Aston Villa in 1931.
Additionally, Haaland matched the Premier League record for the most goals in a season, equaling the 34 goals scored by Andy Cole for Newcastle in 1993-94 and the same amount Alan Shearer registered for Blackburn a year later.
Despite Fulham scoring an equalizer in the 15th minute through Carlos Vinicius, Manchester City regained their lead in the 36th minute through a goal from Alvarez.
At Old Trafford, Manchester United ended Aston Villa’s 10-game unbeaten run with a 1-0 Victory.
Bruno Fernandes‘ scored the only goal of the game which happened to be his 100th goal of his career,
Emiliano Martinez deflected a shot from Marcus Rashford into the path of Fernandes, who pounced six minutes before halftime.
The hosts earned their victory, which they thoroughly deserved after Marcel Sabitzer had earlier come close.
At St James’ Park, Newcastle made a comeback to defeat the bottom-ranked Southampton and solidify their position in the top four of the league table.
Southampton, who were six points adrift of safety at the start of the day, surprisingly took the lead in the first half through Stuart Armstrong’s finish from Kamaldeen Sulemana’s quick break.
Newcastle brought on Wilson, who had scored twice in the previous match against Everton, during half-time, and he had an immediate impact by tapping in from close range just nine minutes into the second half after a free-kick.
Wilson went on to see a header saved before his second goal was disallowed by the Video Assistant Referee for being offside.
However, Newcastle completed their comeback when a corner was deflected into the net by Southampton’s Theo Walcott, and Wilson sealed the victory by calmly rounding the goalkeeper and slotting the ball in.
The other match of the Hour saw Bournemouth defeat Leeds United by 4-1 at the Vitaliy stadium.
