England continued their winning streak in the Euro 2024 qualifiers by comfortably defeating Ukraine at Wembley. Following their first away victory against Italy in over six decades, Gareth Southgate’s team delivered a proficient performance, which proved too much for the Ukrainian visitors.
Initially, England found it challenging to establish any momentum until their all-time leading goal-scorer, Harry Kane, scored his 55th international goal by tapping in Bukayo Saka’s cross at the far post, eight minutes before half-time.
Three minutes later, Saka showcased his skills, creating a second goal for England with a stunning curling shot that flew into the top corner, out of the reach of Anatoliy Trubin.
Leicester City’s James Maddison impressed in his first start for England, and Brentford’s Ivan Toney earned his first cap as a late substitute. Captain Kane was substituted, as there was never a significant threat of a Ukrainian comeback.
Elsewhere, Denmark were stunned by Kazakhstan as they lost a two-goal lead to lose by 3-2. Atalanta striker, Rasmus Hojlund scored twice in a 15-minute spell but a Penalty by Zaynutdinov, coupled with goals from Tagybergen and Aimbetov gave the host a much-needed three points and boosted their hopes of qualifying for their first major tournament.
