Cristiano Ronaldo marked his world-record 197th men’s international appearance for Portugal with a stunning performance in their Euro 2024 qualifying opener against Liechtenstein, netting twice and setting a new men’s record of 120 international goals.
The 38-year-old footballer made his international debut in 2003 and became the first man to score in five World Cups during his appearance in Qatar last year.
Despite missing a clear opportunity in the first half, Ronaldo added to his goal tally with a penalty and a free-kick in the second half. Manchester City’s, Bernardo Silva, doubled Portugal’s lead with a well-placed shot into the bottom corner.
Ronaldo’s impressive feat also includes becoming the first man to score 100 times in competitive internationals, and he justified his selection as captain under the management of Roberto Martinez after being dropped from the starting XI in the previous World Cup.
Ronaldo is currently playing for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
