According to BBC Sport, Everton and the New York-based company MSP Sports Capital have established an exclusive deal for investment in the club.
The contract is still being worked out, according to sources, but negotiations for future funding are moving along.
777 Partners, whose owner Farhad Moshiri has been in talks about an acquisition, appears to have lost ground to MSP.
MSP Sports Capital describes itself as investors in sports teams, leagues, and companies that “pursue ambitious and challenging tasks.
They currently represent European teams including Estoril of Portugal, Augsburg of Germany, and Brondby of Denmark.
Their chairman, millionaire Iranian-American Jahm Najafi, is also a minority owner of the NBA franchise Phoenix Suns and vice-chairman of McLaren.
With one game left in the season, Everton are currently two points above the Premier League’s relegation zone.
