Following Manchester United’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool, coach Ten Hag has confirmed that Bruno Fernandes will remain the team’s vice-captain, despite criticism directed towards the midfielder.
While Fernandes has been tipped for the captaincy, alongside Casemiro and Marcus Rashford, Ten Hag stated that Fernandes is a key member of the squad and has played a significant role in the team’s success this season.
It was reported that Fernandes pushed the center referee during the defeat at Anfield and it has led to a lot of criticism by the media.
Although he acknowledged that Fernandes made mistakes in the Liverpool game, Ten Hag praised his overall contribution to the team and confirmed that he will retain the armband.
Despite criticism from former United skippers Gary Neville and Roy Keane, and Fernandes pushing the assistant referee during the game, the FA has confirmed that no retrospective punishment will be given.
Marcus Rashford also supported Fernandes, stating that he is a fantastic player and a good leader, and that the team needs to support him.
