Fernando Torres prefers Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo, thinks Erling Haaland is superior to Kylian Mbappe, and prefers Steven Gerrard over Frank Lampard among other players.
Fernando Torres was once regarded as one of football’s most fearsome strikers.
He also competed with some of the finest, and he has now provided his thoughts on some of the most pressing issues facing the sport.
Torres scored 81 goals for Liverpool, where he was at the peak of his powers.
The now-retired Spaniard was charged with kicking a ball towards his favourite responses to a series of questions in a game of “This or that” for the Champions League’s TikTok account.
Having shared the field with both players during his career, Torres was asked to weigh in on the age-old Lionel Messi vs. Cristiano Ronaldo debate. Torres chose Messi.
Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe were immediately substituted for two of football’s contemporary superstars, and Torres chose the former.
The former striker maintained his support for Liverpool by declaring that Luis Suarez was superior to Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.
Additionally, he was asked two questions specifically about Liverpool and Chelsea, with Torres responding that he prefers Anfield to Stamford Bridge.
He and Frank Lampard won the Champions League while he was playing for Chelsea, but he favoured Liverpool great Steven Gerrard above the two England midfielders who were unable to play together.
Torres played for both Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez, the former being preferred to the three-time Premier League champion.
The now 38-year-old was pitted against David Villa, a former teammate of his from Spain, for the last question.
Torres, though, exhibited humility and chose not to select himself; instead, it was Villa who was awarded the victory.
Some bold calls were made by the decorated Spaniard, who made 758 senior appearances across five different clubs.
Out of all of those though, Liverpool very much have a safe and secure spot in his heart, cementing his status as a fan favourite.
