I Have To Own Up To My Mistakes – Graham Potter Says After Chelsea’s Defeat To Villa

Chelsea manager, Graham Potter has taken full responsibility for their recent home defeat against Aston Villa, citing their lack of potency in front of goal as the main reason for the loss.

Despite having 27 shots, with eight on target and holding 69% of the possession, Chelsea failed to score and ended up losing 2-0. This defeat has resulted in the team sliding down into the lower half of the Premier League table.

Chelsea’s scoring difficulties have been a recurring issue this season, with only 29 goals scored, lower than 12 of their Premier League competitors and outperformed by relegation-threatened teams like Leeds United and Leicester City, who have scored 36 and 39 goals respectively.

Despite having an expected goals figure of 2.09 in their recent match, Chelsea were unable to convert any of their chances into goals.

After the game, Potter had this to say

“Defensively, we’ve left ourselves too exposed, but again, if you look at the game’s statistics, we had our own opportunities and one-v-ones, but we came in second place when it came to scoring goals”.

“I don’t like placing the blame elsewhere; I have to own up to my mistakes. We are a squad; we must stick together; and we are one. Together, we succeed or fail”.

The mounting problems at Chelsea are putting Graham Potter under increasing pressure, especially as the club has spent over £550m since Todd Boehly took over last summer.
