Folarin Balogun has responded to his omission from the first England squad selected by head coach Gareth Southgate on Thursday.
The 21-year-old, who is currently on loan to Reims from Arsenal, has had a remarkable season, scoring 16 goals in 26 Ligue 1 games.
Notably, Balogun has scored more league goals this season than Lionel Messi and Neymar, and is just three goals behind the joint leaders, Jonathan David and Kylian Mbappe.
Balogun has represented both England and the United States at the youth level, and he is also eligible to play for Nigeria.
His response to being left out of the England squad suggests that he may be considering his options.
Southgate announced the England squad for the upcoming European qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine on Thursday, which included the long-awaited call-up of Ivan Toney.
However, Balogun, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Ben White missed out on selection.
Balogun wasted no time in expressing his feelings, taking to Instagram to post a story shortly after the squad announcement.
He wrote, “In life, go where you’re appreciated. Be easy.”
Balogun first appeared for England’s U-17 side, and he was undecided at U18 level, representing both England and the United States.
However, he has since committed to England, scoring seven goals in 13 appearances for the U-21 side.
Despite not making a senior appearance for any national side, Balogun still has the freedom to choose which country he wants to represent.
