Javi Gracia, the head coach of Leeds United, has been fired, and Sam Allardyce has been brought in to take over until the end of the current campaign.
After only two and a half months at Elland Road, Gracia received his sack letter on Wednesday morning.
After a disastrous 4-1 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday, which left Leeds narrowly outside the relegation zone on goal differential, the decision was made.
The Whites moved quickly to get Allardyce to replace Gracia in the dugout, and The Times reports that the former England manager will receive a seven-figure incentive if he can maintain Leeds in the Premier League.
Allardyce is back in the English Premier League two years since he left West Brom back in 2021.
Although he could not stop the Baggies from getting relegated into the Championship, his tenures at Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and Everton have given him a reputation for pulling off incredible escapes.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Leeds confirmed Gracia’s departure and Allardyce’s appointment, saying:
“Leeds United can confirm Javi Gracia has left the club after 12 games in charge“.
Along with Gracia, other members who have joined the team include Zigor Aranalde, Mikel Antia, and Juan Solla. The club also thanked Javi and his team’s efforts in trying circumstances.
Karl Robinson, a former manager of MK Dons, Charlton Athletic, and Oxford United, will assist Allardyce in the next four games.
