Manchester United have announced that they will not appeal the red card given to Casemiro during their match against Southampton on Sunday.
The Brazilian midfielder received his second red card of the season for a challenge on Carlos Alcaraz, with VAR upgrading his initial yellow card to a red. Despite expectations that the club would appeal the decision, they have confirmed that they will accept the ban.
The club issued a statement explaining their decision, citing a lack of confidence in the likelihood of the ban being overturned. Due to Casemiro’s previous red card earlier in the season against Crystal Palace, he will now serve a four-game ban.
Manchester United may have also been cautious of a potential extension to the ban if the FA deemed their appeal to be ‘frivolous’. As such, they have decided not to appeal the decision, opting instead to move forward and accept the consequences of the red card.
Despite getting sent off on Sunday, Casemiro will be available for selection for the second Leg of the UEFA Europa League game against Real Betis on Thursday Night, United lead the tie by 4-1.
