Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount appears to be inclined towards a potential move to Manchester United, and it is anticipated that discussions will take place between the two clubs in the near future.
Other interested clubs are aware of Mount’s preference, adding to the intrigue surrounding his future. Nevertheless, uncertainties persist regarding Mount’s situation at Chelsea as his contract is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season.
Several obstacles must be overcome before any agreement can be reached, including finding common ground between the clubs.
Additionally, Manchester United’s priority lies in securing a striker, and there is a lack of clarity surrounding their ownership situation.
Mauricio Pochettino, the incoming head coach at Chelsea, desires to include Mount in his squad for the upcoming season, providing a glimmer of hope for a potential breakthrough.
However, reaching a new long-term deal depends on the willingness of both parties to come to an agreement, which has proven challenging since negotiations commenced last summer.
Back in March, The Athletic reported that Liverpool was leading the pack among domestic suitors for Mount, with former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel, now at Bayern Munich, also showing interest.
Arsenal has identified Mount as a target as Mikel Arteta seeks to bolster his midfield options on the left side.
When asked about the Mount situation before Chelsea’s Premier League match against Manchester United, caretaker manager Frank Lampard stated, “I don’t know. That’s not my decision to make. It’s between Mason and the club.”
Mount, a product of Chelsea’s academy, has amassed 195 appearances for the club since his debut in 2017, scoring 33 goals.
Prior to solidifying his place as a regular in Lampard’s first tenure at Chelsea, he spent two seasons on loan at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County from 2017 to 2019.
Additionally, Mount has represented his country on 36 occasions and was part of Gareth Southgate’s squads for both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
