First Bank of Nigeria Plc has said it will only open its branches where it is safe to do so following the naira crunch saga in the country.

The Old Generation bank had closed its offices in Kaduna for fear of attack by frustrated customers. Several customers who were anxious to get money from their savings were disappointed on Thursday in Kaduna as the bank quietly invited security operatives to man the locked gate to forestall any eventuality.

While reacting via a statement on Thursday, First Bank Plc Public Affairs Manager, Dr John Bundiga said those attacking bank branches make it more difficult for bankers to play their part in resolving the challenge “we collectively faced.”

He added that where they observe skirmishes around certain locations, they may have to temporarily shut their doors as they take the safety and welfare of their staff seriously.
