According to Tottenham forward Son Heung-min, the team’s “anger” from their “unacceptable” defeat last weekend drove their fightback against Manchester United on Thursday.
After suffering a 6-1 loss to Newcastle, Spurs found themselves down 2-0 against United before Pedro Porro’s goal reignited their hope. Son then completed the recovery with a 79th-minute equaliser.
Speaking about the team’s determination, Son said,
“We wanted to give everything and that was the dressing room speech.” He went on to express the team’s frustration, stating, “We were really angry about it, we didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down at half-time. The last week was unacceptable and we didn’t want to repeat that.”
Despite the draw, the result was enough to lift Tottenham above Liverpool and Aston Villa into fifth place. However, the team still sits six points behind Manchester United in fourth place with five games remaining.
Son also expressed his gratitude for the fans’ support during the match, saying, “We really appreciated [the fans’] support and they were fighting with us.”
