A supporter of PSV Eindhoven has been banned from their stadium for a period of 40 years. This decision was taken after the supporter was found guilty of attacking Marko Dmitrovic, the goalkeeper of Sevilla, during a UEFA Europa League match.
The man, who was 20 years old, was already serving a national stadium ban and should not have been present in the stadium.
He has been given a three-month prison sentence and has also been prohibited from entering the area around PSV’s Philips Stadium for two years. In addition, PSV has stated that they will try to recover financial damages from the offender.
However, PSV may also face disciplinary action and a heavy fine from UEFA due to the incident. The pitch invader was able to enter the ground using a ticket that was bought by a friend.
He approached Dmitrovic towards the end of the play-off second leg in February and punched him in the face.
The former Charlton goalkeeper managed to wrestle the man to the ground and stewards removed him from the stadium. Despite the incident, Dmitrovic was able to continue playing as Sevilla lost 2-0 on the night but went through 3-2 on aggregate.
Sevilla, the six-time Europa League champions from Spain, will now face Manchester United in the quarter-finals.
