Edinson Cavani’s second season at Manchester United was not enjoyable for him, as he had to spend a lot of time on the bench after Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Old Trafford. Despite scoring 17 goals in 39 games in his first year, the former Paris Saint-Germain player decided to leave the English club.
Upon learning about Ronaldo’s signing, Cavani contacted his agent, his brother Walter Fernando Guglielmone, to express his concerns. He stated that he would have asked him to find him another club if the situation had arisen a week earlier.
However, he clarified that this was not because he did not want to play with Ronaldo. Instead, it was because he understands how the football world operates nowadays and wanted to be prepared.
“I felt like i was not doing enough to start games. Obviously Ronaldo’s presence changed a lot of things too. I just had to leave” Cavani told ESPN
Cavani believes that many things in football have changed over the years, and he wanted to understand the situation better. He acknowledged that he could still play his role at Manchester United but was uncertain about how things would unfold.
He concluded that he felt nothing when he learned of Ronaldo’s arrival and decided to focus on doing his best on the field.
In July 2022, Cavani joined Valencia as a free agent.
