Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a hip injury that requires surgery.
This injury has been a long-standing issue for the Spaniard, who missed Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Tottenham last weekend.
The operation is considered a minor procedure, but it will rule him out of Liverpool’s remaining five Premier League matches.
This is the latest setback for Thiago, who has already missed 57 games due to injuries since joining Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020.
Additionally, Liverpool will be without Stefan Bajcetic, who is out for the rest of the season with an adductor injury, while Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino are still unavailable for Wednesday’s Premier League game against Fulham, though they have returned to training.
Thiago, like all Liverpool midfielders, faces a challenge to demonstrate his worth to manager Jurgen Klopp long-term, as the Reds are expected to reinforce their midfield in the summer transfer market.
