Manchester City failed to capitalize on their first-half dominance and were held to a draw by RB Leipzig in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie. Despite being in complete control in the first 45 minutes and taking the lead through Riyad Mahrez, RB Leipzig came out with more ambition in the second half and mounted mounting pressure on City, resulting in Josko Gvardiol’s headed goal from a short corner.
Although Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson was called upon to make some crucial saves, RB Leipzig managed to hold on to secure a draw, denying City a victory. However, Manchester City, who are still chasing their first Champions League trophy, will aim to finish the job in the return leg on Tuesday, 14 March.
In another match, Inter Milan defeated 10-man Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie, with Romelu Lukaku scoring the only goal in the 86th minute.
Porto had a double chance to take the lead earlier, but Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana denied them both, and they were eventually reduced to 10 men when Otavio received his second yellow card. The second leg will take place at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao on Tuesday, 14 March.
