UEFA has officially charged Roma coach Jose Mourinho for his use of abusive language aimed at referee Anthony Taylor during the Europa League final on Wednesday.
The incident occurred after Mourinho’s team AS Roma suffered a defeat to Sevilla in a penalty shootout at the Puskas Arena.
Video footage captured Mourinho confronting Taylor in the car park, where he verbally attacked the referee, referring to him as a “f*cking disgrace.”
As a result, UEFA has charged Mourinho with “Insulting/abusive language against a match official.”
However, the abuse did not end there. Fans of the club continued to target Taylor and his family, subjecting them to harassment at the airport in Budapest as they departed the city.
Disturbingly, one supporter even physically assaulted the 44-year-old referee. Authorities have taken appropriate action by arresting the individual responsible for the attack.
Looking ahead, Mourinho’s punishment for his actions will be determined in the near future by the UEFA Control, Ethics, and Disciplinary Body.
