Sevilla, who have won the Europa League six times, secured their spot in the seventh final of the competition after defeating Juventus by 2-1 in an intense second leg that went into extra time.
Juventus took the lead with a goal from Dusan Vlahovic, but Sevilla’s Suso equalized with a magnificent left-footed strike, leveling the tie.
The decisive moment arrived in the fifth minute of extra time when Bryan Gil provided a cross for Erik Lamela to head the ball into the net.
Sevilla faced adversity when Marcos Acuna, one of their defenders, received a red card late in the game. However, they managed to hold off Juventus and secure their place in the final against Roma.
The match started steadily, but the intensity picked up midway through the first half, with both goalkeepers making important saves.
Yassine Bounou denied Federico Gatti’s header, while Wojciech Szczesny impressively deflected Lucas Ocampos’ diving header.
Bounou also managed to tip Moise Kean’s goal-bound effort onto the far post after the Juventus striker executed a smart turn in the box.
The first half concluded with Sevilla disappointed as they were not awarded a penalty after Oliver Torres was caught by Juan Cuadrado’s flying challenge.
The second half continued to provide chances for both teams. Juventus came close twice, with Adrien Rabiot shooting wide after a clear opportunity and Bremer heading just past the post from Leandro Paredes’ cross.
Juventus finally took the lead in the 65th minute when Vlahovic evaded a defender and cleverly finished with a dink, just 58 seconds after coming on as a substitute.
However, Sevilla responded promptly with their own substitute. Suso received a pass from Lamela, evaded his marker, and struck the ball into the corner from 20 yards, equalizing for his team.
Sevilla came close to winning the match in the final minute of normal time, but Szczesny leaped to tip Youssef En-Nesyri’s header over the bar. However, in extra time, Szczesny couldn’t stop Lamela’s goal.
Juventus pushed forward in search of a goal to take the tie to penalties, but Federico Chiesa missed their best chance in extra time by shooting over the bar.
Acuna received a second yellow card for time-wasting five minutes before the end, but Sevilla held their ground. They will now continue their incredible run in the competition by heading to Budapest on May 31 for the final.
In another semi-final match, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma reached the Europa League final by playing out a goalless draw against Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg.
Roma secured a 1-0 win in the first leg with a goal from Edoardo Bove, which proved to be enough to advance to the final.
Leverkusen came close to equalizing the tie in the first half of the second leg when Moussa Diaby struck the crossbar. However, they couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Roma will now progress to the final in Budapest on May 31.
Mourinho boasts a perfect record in European finals, having won all five of his previous appearances, including last season’s Europa Conference League with Roma.
