The Mexican Football Federation and U.S. Soccer have declared their ambition to co-host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
The U.S. has hosted the Women’s World Cup in 1999 and 2003. The two federations have come together to present a bid to bring the tournament back to North America.
While Liga MX Femenil’s recent expansion has increased interest in the women’s game, Mexico has never hosted a Women’s World Cup.
The United States and Mexico will also host the men’s World Cup in 2026, in addition to Canada.
The idea that the current decade is the most significant for the sport in the region to date would be strengthened if a second international soccer event were to visit North America.
U.S. Soccer president Cindy Parlow Cone said in a statement: “The United States has always been a global leader for the women’s game, and we would be honored to co-host the world’s premier event for women’s soccer with Mexico.”
The Federacion Mexicana de Futbol (FMF) president Yon de Luisa continued,
“Women’s football in Mexico has seen sustained growth over the last five years, and its development, both on and off the field, coupled with the female empowerment it has achieved and will continue to achieve, is one of the strategic priorities of the FMF“.
“We are pleased to be working together once more with the U.S. Soccer Federation to bring this World Cup to our area, which will unquestionably be historic”.
The deadline for member associations to register their interest was set by FIFA for April 19, and the deadline for submitting the bidding agreement was set for May 19.
