The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a shock 1-0 home loss to Guinea Bissau in the AFCON 2024 Qualifier in Abuja this evening.
The three-time African champions started the early exchanges as the better side in the game but fell behind to Mama Balde’s goal in the 29th minute.
The second half continued as the first with Moses Simon Samuel Chukwueze and Paul Onuachu coming close but Jose Peseiro’s men could not find the much-needed equaliser as Guinea held on for a famous win in Nigeria.
The Super Eagles have lost the top-spot position to Guinea Bissau in the group. The Eagles now have six points from three games, one point behind today’s opponent who sits on top with seven points after three games played.
Third place Sierra Leone and Fourth place Sao Tome and Principe have two and one point respectively after three games played
Peseiro’s men will now travel for the return leg in Guinea next week for a chance to reclaim the top spot.
