Imo police have foiled an attempted robbery at Goldwise jewellery Shop located at Ikenegbu Layout near Kilimanjaro Ekwema Crescent Owerri, the Imo state capital, shooting guy the gang driver dead in the process.
Goldwise Jewellery, owned by Wisdom Anosike from Mbano, deals on all kinds of gold, diamonds and other expensive precious stones.
it was gathered that the gunmen stormed the popular jewellery shop on Saturday afternoon, and while carting away valuables, encountered the operatives of Imo police who had cordoned the area.
An eyewitness had this to say, “the gunmen operated in a Hilux bus and they had almost succeeded when they incurred the police who had already cordoned the area.
“The driver of the gang was shot dead while they exchanged gunshots. There was serious stampede as pedestrians and motorists alike scampered for safety”
Reaching out to the state’s police command, Henry Okoye who is the command’s spokesperson confirmed the incident and further revealed that two of the gunmen were arrested on gunpoint.
The police spokesman further said, “At the point of arrest, one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, two live ammunition, one military camouflage, and some other military accouterments were recovered from them”.
He said a 27-year-old man, Gaura Peter, from Koji State, and Joshuah Promise, a 25-year-old from Delta State, were arrested and are in the command’s custody.
The Spokesman said the two suspects are currently in the police custody while investigation is still ongoing.
