Just over two years after the club fired him, Frank Lampard is expected to be named Chelsea’s temporary manager until the end of the current campaign.
Since being fired by Everton in January after less than a year in charge, he has been without a job.
From July 2019 to January 2021, the ex-Chelsea and England midfielder oversaw the Blues before being replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Graham Potter, Tuchel’s replacement, was fired on Sunday.
Lampard was in attendance during Chelsea’s recent goalless draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard led Chelsea to the FA Cup final during his previous tenure as manager of the team after joining from Derby County.
The club’s all-time leading scorer, Lampard, guided them to 44 victories from 84 games, but he also suffered five defeats in his last eight league games, which is more than in his previous 23.
He was appointed Everton manager in January 2022 after being fired by Chelsea but was fired eight days before his one-year anniversary in the position due to nine losses in 12 Premier League games.
