Liverpool have officially confirmed the acquisition of Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who has signed a contract with the Reds until 2028.
The 24-year-old, who helped Argentina win the 2022 World Cup, joined the Seagulls in 2019 and had a breakthrough season in which he scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances, helping Brighton secure their first-ever European qualification.
Due to his impressive performances, Mac Allister became one of the most coveted players in his position, with Liverpool successfully beating off competition from other clubs to secure his services in a deal reportedly worth £35 million.
Mac Allister has told the Liverpool’s’ official website:
“It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates. It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”
The Albiceleste star will wear the No.10 shirt at Anfield and was signed after Liverpool triggered his buyout clause, with medicals successfully completed on Tuesday.
