Former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is set to embark on a new venture as he assumes ownership of Royal Excelsior Virton, a Belgian third-division club.
On July 1, current owner Flavio Becca will officially transfer the reins to the esteemed French star.
The club has publicly announced this development through a statement on their official website, accompanied by the motivating slogans ‘Together, always higher’ and ‘Small town, big dreams.’
The official club statement reads:
“Flavio is obviously extremely happy to be able to hand over the keys of the club to N’Golo Kanté, a high-class player, not only for his footballing qualities but also and above all for his unanimously recognized human qualities.”
Becca took charge of Royal Excelsior Virton in 2018, and under his ownership, the club experienced immediate success. They achieved promotion to the second division for the first time in their history.
Furthermore, in the subsequent season, they came remarkably close to advancing to the top division but narrowly missed out, finishing as runners-up.
Although Royal Excelsior faced relegation from the second division during the 2022-23 season, the club remains completely debt-free.
Additionally, a new board of directors will be appointed shortly in order to further streamline operations.
