Rio Ferdinand in his recent interview said that only Lionel Messi is ahead of Manchester United’s midfielder Bruno Fernandes when it comes to creativity.
As the Red Devils battled for consistency as a team in the previous season and the early going of the 2022–23 campaign, the strange question was posed to Portugal international playmaker Fernandes.
Despite Erik ten Hag occasionally moving the 28-year-old into a deeper role this season, the talisman has remained for United, and after once again shining in a 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest, he now has 60 goals and 52 assists through 175 appearances for Premier League powerhouses.
According to United icon Ferdinand, Fernandes is among the finest in the business.
He said as much on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel.
“According to his statistics, only Messi has scored more goals since joining United than he has.
No one is claiming that Bruno is on Messi’s level, and I don’t say that he is either.
But in those stats, only Messi is superior to him”.
Ferdinand also said that In order to reach that higher level, he needs [Christian] Eriksen. Eriksen is known for making a lot of simple passes to teammates.
Fernandes, Eriksen and Casemiro have formed a formidable partnership in the heart of Manchester United’s Midfield.
The trio are yet to taste defeat in the 17 games they have all started together this season.
