German Midfielder, Mesut Ozil have announced his retirement from professional football at age 34.
Ozil last played for İstanbul Başakşehir in the Turkish Super Lig. However, he only made four appearances for the team due to numerous injury problems, and has now announced his retirement.
In an emotional statement shared on social media, the 34-year-old expressed his gratitude for the privilege of being a professional football player for almost 17 years.
He also thanked his former clubs, including Schalke 04, Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Arsenal FC, Fenerbahçe, and İstanbul Başakşehir, as well as his coaches and teammates.
Ozil gave special thanks to his family and closest friends for their unwavering love and support throughout his career.
He also expressed his appreciation to his fans for their continued support, no matter the circumstances or the club he represented.
