Police arrest over 800 suspected criminals in Nasarawa

The command from January to December 2022 has recorded remarkable achievements in its fight against crime and criminality in the state

NASARAWA — No fewer than 810 suspected criminals have been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command from January to December 2022.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Maiyaki Baba, made the disclosure at the Command Headquarters in Lafia on Friday while briefing newsmen on the command’s achievements for the year.

He explained that most of the suspects were arrested for armed robbery, kidnapping, railway tracks, and vandalism, among other criminal activities in the state.

He said, “The command from January to December 2022 has recorded remarkable achievements in its fight against crime and criminality in the state.

“Out of the 810 suspects arrested this year, 136 of them are for cases connected to armed robbery; 112 of them were arrested on matters that have to do with kidnapping; 138 of them were suspected cultist.

“We also arrested 59 rape suspects while 365 other suspects were arrested for other sundry offenses.

“Items recovered include 704 live ammunition, 44 firearms, 14 handsets, six motorcycles, five vehicles, and N600,000 as cash.

“374 of the suspects have so far been charged to court and 23 of them were convicted while the others are still being investigated at our facilities across the state.”

While warning all criminal elements to flee the state without further delay, the Commissioner of Police commended the Nasarawa state government, traditional rulers, and residents for their cooperation throughout the year, assuring that the command will continue to fight crime to a standstill across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
