Six people have died on Wednesday after rainstorm ripped through oko community in delta state.
Several other individuals was reportedly hurt in the horrific disaster that occured at night in the community located in Oshimili South Local Government Area of the oil-rich state, reports.
A source said that the incident which occured due to heavy rain and wind, ripped through houses, ancient trees and forced residents to evacuate their homes.
It happened when the tree crashed into two homes, resulting in the deaths that left members of the community in mourning.
In the wake of the incident, the Delta State Government expressed sadness over the development and a similar one around the Okotomi area of Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s Information Commissioner Charles Aniagwu who conveyed the government’s condolences to the victims and their families said the injured are being treated at the Asaba Specialist Hospital.
He assured that the state government will continue to clear debris as well as cut down trees that may pose a serious threat to lives and properties.
