Chelsea manager Graham Potter can finally breathe a sigh of relief after his side’s qualified past the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions league
The Blues reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League by beating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, overturning a 1-0 first-leg deficit.
Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz scored the crucial goals for Chelsea, with co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali looking on in satisfaction.
“I am happy, we came here with the motive to win and we did it. The players gave their all and now we can look ahead to the next games” Potter said after the game last night
Despite pressure on Potter’s job due to poor form in the Premier League and early exits from domestic cup competitions, Chelsea’s new ownership has remained loyal to him.
While Chelsea still have issues to contend with, such as profligacy up front, Potter appears to be building a solid foundation at the back. With over a month to go until the quarter-finals, there is time for Potter to generate greater cohesion from his expensively assembled stars.
