Xabi Alonso has firmly dismissed any speculation linking him to the Tottenham manager’s position by reaffirming his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen.
Currently focused on leading his team into the second leg of the Europa League semi-final against Roma, the former Liverpool midfielder has set his sights on turning the tide and guiding his side to the Budapest final.
During a pre-match news conference, Alonso addressed the rumors surrounding a potential move to London, stating: “I am happy here with both the team and the club, and my future is not a concern for me.” When asked by reporters if he plans to remain as coach until at least 2024, Alonso confidently replied, “That’s correct.”
Following his retirement as a player in 2017, Alonso transitioned into a coaching role with Real Sociedad B before assuming the position of head coach at Bayer Leverkusen in October 2022.
Despite a challenging start to the season, Alonso’s guidance has propelled the club up the Bundesliga table.
They now find themselves in the race to secure European qualification through the league while simultaneously aiming for Europa League success to conclude the campaign.
