Barcelona is reportedly exploring a new avenue to fund Lionel Messi’s potential return to the club, by planning to establish a museum dedicated to the Argentine footballer.
The proposed museum will be situated at the old headquarters of La Masia, the famous youth academy next to Camp Nou.
According to Spanish outlet AS, talks have already begun with telecommunications company Telefónica to convert the space into an “interactive and immersive centre” that will attract tourists and generate a consistent income to finance Messi’s transfer.
With just a few months left on his Paris Saint-Germain contract, Messi’s return to Barca appears to be increasingly likely, although the club still needs to raise funds to make it happen.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has reportedly indicated that he would approve the transfer if the funding falls within the stipulated limits, given the commercial revenue that Messi brings to the league.
