Barcelona extended their lead at the top of the La Liga to eight points with a comfortable 2-0 victory over struggling Cadiz.
The home side dominated the game, with Sergi Roberto giving them the lead just before halftime from a rebound off the post following Robert Lewandowski’s header, which was cleared off the line. Lewandowski then got his first league goal at the Nou Camp in four months, drilling in a fine drive from the edge of the box after being picked out by Roberto.
Xavi’s team had chances to score more goals, with Lewandowski hitting the crossbar, but they were unable to add to their lead. Nonetheless, they have now won their last seven league matches and are unbeaten in 13. Their impressive defensive record also continued, with a 17th clean sheet of the season, surpassing the record set by Deportivo de La Coruna in 1993-94.
Cadiz, who had two goals disallowed, remain two points above the relegation zone. In contrast, Lewandowski’s impressive form continues with 15 goals in his first 19 La Liga appearances, with only Cristiano Ronaldo reaching that total in fewer matches since 2000.
Barcelona’s closest rivals, Real Madrid, won their match against Osasuna 2-0 on Saturday, but Barcelona maintains a comfortable lead at the top of the table.
