The ownership of Manchester United has been a topic of discussion in the past few weeks. It is no news that the current owners have put the club up for sale and despite no clear indication of who the future owners of the club will be, it is believed that various bidders have shown interest in buying the club.
The Glazer family, current owners of Manchester United, have been in charge of the club since 2005 and they now feel that it is time leave the helm of affairs at Old Trafford. A number of potential buyers have been reported, including Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla. The Glazers’ deadline for bids is believed to be February 17, but this may be flexible for an appropriate bidder.
A multi-billion pound bid would be necessary to take over the Premier League club, which was put up for sale in November. Musk has previously joked about investing in the club but has since been reported to be monitoring the situation along with other potential buyers. Musk, who completed his takeover of Twitter in October 2022 for a reported £37.9bn, ranks among the world’s richest men with a staggering net worth.
The Glazers could settle for investment rather than a full takeover, but there could still be bids from Saudi and American investors, as well as those with ties to the UK and Qatar.
Musk, 51, has been on the Forbes list of most richest men in the world for the last 5 years, so a possible takeover of a club as big as Manchester United will not come as a surprise to many.
