After scoring the match-winning goal against Chelsea, Karim Adeyemi, the forward for Borussia Dortmund, credited his explosive speed to consuming African cuisine, such as fufu.
In Wednesday evening’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg match, the German side secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea, with the only goal of the game coming from the 21-year-old player, Adeyemi. After a corner-kick had been cleared, Adeyemi quickly seized the opportunity and picked up the ball in his own area, before embarking on a stunning solo run that saw him cover almost the entire length of the pitch and eventually find the back of the net. This remarkable effort proved to be the decisive factor in the match.
After the game, Adeyemi, who was born in Germany but has Nigerian heritage, spoke to the media and attributed his speed to the consumption of African foods, specifically Fufu from Nigeria.
“I consume a lot of African cuisine, but my speed is also due to my father’s genetics. I credit my swiftness to the Nigerian dish called Fufu,”
He explained when asked about the food that contributes to his agility.
Adeyemi now has 5 goals and 2 assists in 23 games for Borussia Dortmund this season.
