Chelsea’s interim manager, Frank Lampard has declared that he “won’t let anyone off the hook” following Real Madrid’s elimination from the Champions League, which dealt their struggling season yet another major setback.
Real won the quarterfinal match 4-0 on aggregate after scoring twice on Tuesday at Stamford Bridge.
As a result, Lampard has now overseen the Blues’ four losses since being named interim manager earlier this month.
You have to offer everything you’ve got in every game, he told BT Sport.
“I have only been here for two weeks, so I’m hungry, said the 44-year-old Lampard, who is also Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer.
“In terms of finishing this season, I won’t let anyone off the hook. The opposite must be true”.
Chelsea’s best hope of making it to Europe next season was to win the Champions League as they were currently ranked 11th in the Premier League and 10 points behind Brighton in seventh place.
However, they must now prepare for a trophy-less season in which they will have nothing to show for spending a record amount of about £600 million on players in the previous two transfer windows.
