Leeds United have taken action against one of their supporters who pushed Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe in the chest during a Premier League match at Elland Road on Saturday.
In response to the incident, the club has issued a lifetime ban to the perpetrator and made an arrest.
In a statement on their website, Leeds United said:
“Leeds United can confirm that following an incident at our Premier League match against Newcastle United today, an arrest has been made and a lifetime ban has also been issued.”
Following the incident, Eddie Howe expressed concern about the lack of security measures in place. He said:
“I can’t remember much about it, it is not something you expect.
“He said something to me I can’t repeat and then he was led away, but moments like that make you think.
The safety of staff is paramount and we need to be mindful of that and learn from it. Nobody should have to face that in the sport they love. Nobody should fear for their own safety.”
During the game, Newcastle’s Callum Wilson scored two penalties while Leeds missed one, resulting in a draw.
As a result, Newcastle now stands at the third position with 66 points from 35 games, which is the same as Manchester United, who are in the fourth position. Meanwhile, Liverpool is in the fifth position with 62 points.
