Ahead of their trip to Crystal Palace this weekend, Liverpool Midfielder, Harvey Elliott has urged his teammates to utilize their recent 5-2 defeat against Real Madrid as a source of inspiration for the future.
In a harsh reality check, Liverpool were soundly defeated by Madrid following two consecutive 2-0 victories over Everton and Newcastle in the Premier League.
The result highlighted the distance Liverpool have fallen since they faced Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris last May, which they lost. Now, Jurgen Klopp’s priority is to secure Liverpool’s position in the premier European club competition next season.
However, young player Harvey Elliott believes many have already written off Liverpool. In his opinion, this serves as a motivation to prove critics wrong.
In an interview with the club’s official website, Elliott acknowledged that their recent performances against Newcastle and Everton were impressive, reminiscent of their successful seasons in the past.
“We need focus on getting back to basics and not get too disheartened by the Madrid game. The defeat will serve as a Motivation to us moving forward”
The bigger picture for Liverpool is securing a Champions League spot, which will undoubtedly impact their summer transfer business.
Klopp has his eye on long-term target Jude Bellingham, but his acquisition may be challenging if Liverpool finishes outside the top four.
