Manchester United defeated Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium to win the Carabao Cup trophy this evening.
Manchester United who were coming off the back of knocking out Barcelona out of the UEFA Europa League three days ago took the lead through Casemiro and double their lead via Marcus Rashford’s deflected effort in the first half.
Newcastle came out the better side in the second half but they hardly troubled David De Gea in the Manchester United’s goal post.
Manchester United could have added a third late in the half when Bruno Fernandes robbed Newcastle’s defender Sven Botman off the ball, only for him to fire straight at Loris Karius in goal for the magpies.
The victory represents Manchester United’s first Trophy in six years, while Newcastle’s wait for a major trophy since 1969 continues.
