Football star Kylian Mbappe’s future at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is once again uncertain, according to a report by ‘L’Equipe’ on Monday.
Mbappe did not renew his contract until 2025 with PSG when he rejected Real Madrid.
Instead, he renewed until 2024 with the option to extend it by another year automatically whenever he desires. The PSG board has four months left for Mbappe to activate the extension, or they will have to consider selling him to avoid losing him for free in 2024.
The year before a footballer’s contract ends is crucial, as it provides the owner with the last chance to make a sale and earn some money before the player becomes free to leave.
Mbappe’s contract ends in 2024 if he does not automatically renew until 2025. He must decide within the next four months, before the summer window opens, whether to stay with PSG or potentially move to another club.
‘L’Equipe’ claims that the PSG board’s priority is to convince Mbappe to stay, but if he goes into the summer window without having signed another season, he will become a perfect target for Real Madrid, even if PSG rejects any offers they make.
Mbappe is facing the same situation as last summer, as he must decide whether to commit to PSG or leave the door open to a potential move. Not renewing his contract would suit him, but he also does not want to leave PSG too early and put the club in a weak position.
Mbappe, 24 is known to be interested in moving to Real Madrid and a move might be on the cards for the French forward if he decides to leave Paris in the summer.
