Former Barcelona striker, Thierry Henry has recently stated that Lionel Messi performs better for his national team Argentina than he does for his current club Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Albiceleste last December, Messi has faced heavy criticism from PSG fans this season due to the club’s poor performance.
In addition, he was recently booed by his fans during a 1-0 defeat to Lyon in the French Ligue 1. Despite his impressive stats of 18 goals and 17 assists for PSG across all competitions this season, Messi’s contributions seem to go underappreciated.
However, according to Henry, Messi’s performance for Argentina is superior because he is the team’s leader, which is not the case at PSG. Henry explains..
“It is not easy to lead the orchestra with three conductors. In Argentina, he is the boss. You see how the players look at him. They could die for him. When Leo feels that, he is unplayable. Here [PSG], it is different.”
Messi’s contract at PSG will expire at the end of the season and a return to Old Club Barcelona is being considered as a possible destination for him, though he might also opt to stay at the Parc De Princes for another year.
