Moises Caicedo might yet leave Brighton before the January transfer window ends, according to manager Roberto De Zerbi.
This month, offers for the Ecuadorian international were turned down by both Arsenal and Chelsea.
The 21-year-old made it clear in a statement issued on Friday night that he intends to vacate the AMEX Stadium before the deadline on Tuesday.
Caciedo was left off the Brighton roster for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth-round match against Liverpool, and his manager was questioned about it before the game.
De Zerbi emphasized that the club wants to keep hold of its star midfielder, but he also acknowledged that they will look for the best possible “solution” for everyone.
Moses is a good man, and we’ll see what happens tomorrow and the following days, De Zerbi said ITV.
We hope he’ll stay with us through the end of the season, but Moises and the club should answer that.
After being questioned about whether Brighton has any chance of keeping the player, De Zerbi reiterated, “Moises is a lovely guy.
“I believe that mistakes can be made in life. There are numerous alternatives for each individual, and we will determine which is ideal for the club, the individual, and both of us.
According to reports, the midfielder’s asking price of £60 million was turned down by Arsenal on Friday, and Chelsea’s offer of £55 million was also rejected earlier this month.
The London clubs are putting together improved offers, and indications indicate that Brighton might profit if they receive a £90 million deal.
‘I am grateful to Mr. Bloom [owner and chairman] and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them,’ Caicedo said in a statement posted on Twitter on Friday night. I always play football with heart and a smile on my face.
I was raised in poverty as the youngest of ten siblings in Santa Domingo, Ecuador. My lifelong goal has been to become Ecuador’s most decorated player.
“I’m honored to have been able to secure a record transfer price for Brighton, allowing them to reinvest it and support the team’s further success.”
“The fans have embraced me and will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope they can get why I want to seize this wonderful chance.”
