Napoli looked to be taking the Serie A championship under Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen added two more goals on Sunday to help Napoli defeat Spezia 3-0 and increase its lead over Inter Milan, which is now in second place and will play AC Milan later that day.
Osimhen had scored in his fifth straight league game. The Nigerian forward’s league-leading total of goals is now 16, after seven goals in that time.
After putting up a strong defense against Napoli’s potent assault, Spezia conceded a penalty less than ten seconds after the interval when defender Arkadiusz Reca attempted to stop Matteo Politano but failed to realize that the ball would bounce into his outstretched arm.
After Khvicha Kvaratskhelia successfully converted the penalty, the game became more open.
Osimhen had a goal disallowed in the 62nd minute for tripping Mattia Caldara, but five minutes later he doubled his total thanks to another assist from Kvaratskhelia.
The relegation zone was still five points above Spezia.
