Paris Saint Germain defender, Achraf Hakimi is under investigation for rape and assault on a woman.
A judicial official informed the Associated Press that an investigation has been initiated by the prosecutor’s office in Nanterre, a Parisian suburb, into an accusation of rape against the defender for Paris Saint-Germain.
The official did not comment on the media’s speculation or provide additional information about the claim.
As per an article in the Parisien newspaper confirmed by AFP, a 24-year-old woman alleged claimed that Hakimi sexually assaulted her at his residence in a Paris suburb last Saturday.
She reportedly filed a report at a police station on Monday but did not press charges. PSG officials did not respond to requests for comments, and Hakimi has not commented on the accusations.
AFP revealed that the public prosecutor’s office handling the investigation refused to comment but criticized the media’s publication of “information already made public,” which they believe could hinder the ongoing inquiry to reveal the truth.
Hakimi was recently honored at the Best Fifa awards ceremony in Paris, where he was named in the Fifa Fifpro men’s world team of the year. He also played for the Moroccan national team, which came in fourth in the World Cup in Qatar.
